Welcome to Elche, a privileged enclave.
His 326km2 are in the south of the Comunidad Valenciana. It's the main city of Baix Vinalopó. His situation results strategic; swamp by the Mediterranean Sea, is very well comunicated by the A-7 road, and is seat of the International Airport of "L'Altet".
His weather lets you enjoy the sun and soft temperatures during long part of the year. His countryside is unic in Europe, converting all his visitors in privileged.
The rich history of Elche, that go back to more than five millenniums, has contributed to his culture and to his cointryside jewels like the "Dama d'Elx", masterpiece of iberian art: the Palm Grove, heir of culture hispanic-muslim, and "El Misteri d'Elx", last testimony alive of the religious medieval theatre; this two last have been declared World's Heritage by the UNESCO. In the deposit of "L'Alcudia", Elche was iberian, roman and visigothic. The muslims move the city to his actual enclave, where the conquest of Jaime I the new city is configured. In XIX, appears the important canvas shoe activity, where the actual footwear industry comes from.
Elche manufacture and distribute around half of the footwear that is produced in Spain every year.
From 70's , the enterprising spirit of Elche's impresarios has combined the craft technics with technology, design and fashion, converting the city in seat of big and small trademarks recognized in whole world. Most part of the production is exported to the rest of Europe and United States.
The development of the city has come marked by the peak of other economic sectors, like construction and trade comerce. With more than 3.200 establishments, Elche is relating for purchases in whole area.
